My work is just, such a mess. I work in care work for a group home for disabled people, and no one ever trained me properly for the specific job I am doing. I learned things as I went and it has mostly been ok, but it seems that everyone has contradicting information. We also have another supervisor that came in who is more on top of things, which is good, but the dissonance is a lot where like, I was not told the proper way to do things and it's problematic and I am frustrated. I have been at this job for 3-4 months now and I do not have the necessary information. I had a group therapy meeting today that I did not want to miss, so I asked my co-workers if they could take my shift. I was told by multiple co-workers that we can ask each other to take shifts and if someone can take it or switch then it is fine. So I did this for today as another co-worker really wanted my shift and it benefited both of us. We let our supervisor know and he responded that this we can not just switch or take shifts and he had to approve me for a vacation day to allow this. My other co-workers have been switching shifts like this for a good while now and no one said it was not ok until now. Like the entire time I have been at work this is what people have been doing lol. It is just stressful because there is like this element of getting into trouble or causing problems, but again no one explained this to me and the co-workers who said this was ok have been there way way longer than me. I also then lose a vacation day I think? Which also annoys me because I actually am only guaranteed 16 hours a week from this job, and the rest of my shifts I pick up. I have already worked well over 16 hours this week lol. I also have worked overtime sometimes and the other day I did a 13 hour shift because someone called in sick.
I am just so frustrated that there is such little communication within the organization. I honestly think it is pathetic. As far as I can tell people have been switching shifts for years here lol.
