Small business owner here, only have a couple employees, so I think it's a bit easier for me to show the needed attention to each of them. It's also been a pretty good couple years for my industry, so I'm lucky that I can easily afford to compensate well. Lastly our work is pretty rewarding, not everyone can feel the same about what they do, so I'm lucky that way too.
I'm happy to be in the position at the end of this month giving really good reviews to the people who work with me and hand out 10-20% of their current annual salary as Q1 profit sharing bonuses. I'm also looking forward to giving one person a 1 year path to their next promotion which they've shown a lot of development in order to make this path clear to us. We're currently hiring for another position that should bring someone in with a lot of experience which will be great to have not only for the business, but for the development of employees who are younger and earlier in their career.
The overall spirit in the office seems to be getting better and better. It seems like everyone genuinely enjoys what they do. Maybe it's just the liquor cabinet I keep stocked for them, or they act that way to make me feel good about things. Either way I'm enjoying it and I hope we can continue to share and enjoy the good times.
I'm not out here to toot my horn or anything but with the amount of bad experiences I see in this sub, I just want to give my experience and wish you all the best of luck in finding an employer who cares about you.
Maybe if you can't find one, you can be one. I know for most people it's not possible due to the current system we live in. But if you find yourself in a similar position as me I hope you're able to experience the joy I have now.
