Back when i was in High School, which i graduated 2021, we were forced to do some 180 hours of volunteer work or so in order to graduate. Their excuse for forcing us to was “oh, it will give you job experience to help you get a job”. To date, NONE of my volunteering experience at various places including local government related have gotten me a job. In fact, the people who hire ignore such experience even when it’s in their field to an extent. I volunteered in the concession stand in my high school for experience, which counts as a form of food service since i was often directly handling food, yet no such jobs will hire me. I volunteered for a local government agency (Smart Columbus), yet nobody will hire me in that field. The whole fucking thing is a scam meant to just waste our time. Sure back when it was originally made, volunteer experience might have helped, but not in any of the time i’ve been applying for jobs over roughly three years. Anyone else have similar experience with the Volunteering stuff forced on us not getting the jobs we are assured it would help get?
