I work in a bar in the UK, and my manager has explicitly stated she’d rather we didn’t drink in the establishment off hours as customers may recognise us and see it as ‘unprofessional’. Never bothered me that much, but a few days ago this exact manager wasn’t working and came in with two friends. She racked up a tab of over £100 on drinks and got absolutely smashed – she was doing shots of Jäger and singing embarrassingly and loudly to the point it was disturbing other customers. Someone even said to me ‘you get some lively ones in here hey?’, I was so close to saying ‘Yep that’s our general manager’. How can we be expected to take anything she says seriously when she’s going against her own rules in such a huge way, to the point of getting embarrassingly drunk? This woman is pushing 40 and me and most the rest of the bartenders are under or around 25 years old. It makes me want to never do anything she tells me again, and really questions her integrity as a manager.
