I need clarification – break times for hourly employees in USA – Texas

Working 8 hours, being expected to be on our feet for the whole day and being told NOT to eat food or drink in front of customers in one of the most busiest stores in my area just seems kind of off to me. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?
