So, I've been gearing up to quit my grocery store position in Western Canada. The union we have, UFCW 1518, is toothless, as our last union contract only benefitted people that already had bajillions of hours in the store. Instead of years worked, they still keep their ridiculous 1000 hour metric, and ONLY a 70 cent raise above minimum wage for most employees, with back pay given to ONLY the senior staff. In addition, the place is feeling more and more corpratised as time goes on, with judgement around every corner for even talking to someone else for five minutes, and head office doesn't know what they're doing with their fucking products half the time.
My mom recently got a job as a food service worker in a senior care center, which pays about 6-7 more dollars per hour than my grocery position. I applied to become a housekeeper, both physically and online, for multiple of the places within our health sector. Nothing, for months. My mom said to me this morning that there were “no housekeepers” when she last worked, and this seems to be a common occurence. It was exactly like this the LAST time I was looking for my current job, where the manager had to be yelled at to even give me a chance. Resumes never work. They either think I'm lying or I'm underqualified. Cover letters never work, cause people don't read em unless it's a position that's more white collar. Fucking NEPOTISM doesn't even work sometimes, as my manager STILL questioned me on everything during the interview. I'm so sick of it.
