A few months ago my company merged with another larger company. When this happened I immediately called the company we merged with to find out more information and see if there was a difference in base pay. In doing so I found they start out $3 more than my company so I informed my coworkers. We’ve been going through the merging process and our company has done questionnaires and surveys all of which say nothing about increasing our pay. Today is my first day back after vacation, I was pulled into the office by my immediate boss and long story short they knew it was me who called the company we’re merging with and informed me that we need to keep our pay rates private and not discuss things like that among coworkers he then proceeded to give me a $1.50 raise. I’m unsure how to feel about this, I actually enjoy going to this job and I enjoy my coworkers and would say this company has the capability to do the right thing for its employees. I’m in a position where I can move up and implement change but this is just strange to me
