As of lately my employer has adopted what seems to be an “all work, no play” kind of workplace.
No cell phones, don’t use computer for anything other than work, ask for something to do when bored. We are relatively very slow, with many days comparing to “watching paint dry”.
When I make less than $13/hr after being here 2 years with a total of 5 years in the industry? I think not.
I’m not trying to be a whiny bitch about not being able to use my phone at work, but it’s the point to me that they want us actively working for every second of the 8 hours we are here.
I work on a front line in a customer facing industry. We are monitored by cameras, while those away from the front line and in offices without cameras, they can and do scroll on their phones during the day.
Both my manager and supervisor have Apple watches which they use to view and respond to texts. How is that any different?
