Doing absolutely nothing at work 80% of the time, should I feel bad?

Hello, For context, my workplace doesnt really care much as long as shit is getting done just from what I gather from people that have been here for many years. I’ve been known to be a good worker, if a job comes in, expect that shit to get done right away. I’m not one to go look for things to do and screw myself over which I’ve done many times in the past while of course not getting compensated for it. My work involves driving around my city and no one really tracks down what you’re up to unless something is urgent and needs to get fixed right away. Only happend twice in the 2 years I’ve been here. I usually stick around at the office till like lunch hour and go do work (if there’s any) after lunch. If there’s no work, I’ll go straight home and just chill…

Hello,

For context, my workplace doesnt really care much as long as shit is getting done just from what I gather from people that have been here for many years.

If there’s no work, I’ll go straight home and just chill while of course checking my email constantly if there are any major malfunctions. I can honestly tell that this is what my co-workers are doing but of course, it’s like a bro code here and nobody seems to mention or even talk about it.

Next month would be my 2nd year and work is still minimal. I’ve been thinking of ways to be more productive like doing side hustles while at work or even signing up for classes to improve my CV.

It’s a govt job with good pay and pension and I consider myself very lucky but I’d like to hear from others if they’ve been in the same situation and like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!
