So disclaimer before posting. I am not sure how to feel on this. My company, for the most part, is pretty great. But todays announcement was a bit weird and my initial feeling was one of distaste.

So my company announced today no one is allowed to take more than 2 days off for PTO. The reason being is we are severely short staffed due to the war in Ukraine. Many of our employees (about 40%) were living in Ukraine have either evacuated to Poland (with company help) or have enlisted to fight.
Because the company has been spending a lot of money either setting up satellite offices for our Ukraine colleagues or finding them temporary homes – we have been extremely short staffed in several key departments.
Our CEO addressed the company today that he is initiating the first of several key “contingency end game levers” – with the first being no one is allowed to take off more than two days of PTO (with obvious exceptions). This is because we are going to be called to help in other areas that may not be our area but we need to because of the world situation (example Sales helping Customer Support or Marketing helping another department.)
Tbh I am cool with it but it also feels weird to make this like a law. I mean, it would’ve been fine if he just said “please for the next few weeks just help out in other areas if you are called up.”
What are your guys thoughts?
