My GF worked for a restaurant before the pandemic for 12 years. After lockdown was over, she called her boss to get her schedule and was told that she had been taken off the schedule and her shifts had been given to another employee. She then called the DOL and filed for unemployment.
Fast forward 2 years to now. She got a notice that she has a phone appeal for this Thursday and a packet from the DOL explaining her rights. She is scared shitless that they are going to make her repay some or all of her unemployment because its basically her word against the restaurant owner.
We have a feeling that the restaurant owner is doing this because of the massive PPE loan she received which stipulated they rehire all their employees but can't be certain. The amount of time that has passed makes it super hard to remember dates but I assume it's because the DOL was closed during the pandemic. Does anyone have any experience with these types of appeals? The whole thing is super shady and we are freaking out about having to possibly pay back $9300.
