Story time: I had a job I loved. I was there for 3 years. I don't want to blow smoke up my butt, but I was a solid employee. Yesterday, it all came to an end. Why? The actions of someone else, and HR didn't care.
What happened? I failed to act, and HR argued it was a fireable offense on my behalf. I debated to the death, but HR didn't care. Now I'm left here typing on Reddit, feeling completely defeated.
How did I fail to act? A low-life, unethical coworker passively-aggressively harassed another coworker behind her back. He was venting to me in private (or so I thought), and his frustration later stooped to attacking her looks. Unbeknownst to me, this was all caught on camera (visual and audio). Management found the tape and pulled both of us into the office. My “edgy” coworker chickened out and resigned before punishment came down on him. I decided to face the music, under the impression that I did nothing wrong. I was mistaken. I was canned for failing to immediately report what my coworker disclosed to me, and management needing to find out through camera footage.
Maybe I'm in the wrong. Maybe I deserved it. But man, it really irks me that I busted my butt for 3 years and got fired on a whim because of what someone else said.
What're your thoughts?
P.S. For those wondering how this was caught on visual and audio, we were both EMTs, and all ambulances are equipment with cameras on the dashboard. This discussion happened inside of the front of the ambulance.
