Minimum pay = Minimum effort

I was doing some removals work emptying a house across the road from a restaurant I used to wash dishes and then cheffed at. Now the boss of the restaurant is chatting with a few waiters outside the restaurant. So I was loading some boxes into our van with 2 of the other guys from the removal company working up a sweat, and my old boss sees this and jokingly calls out to me “Hey Toby, I have never seen you working so hard, you are even starting to swea So I replied “Hey Robert, you never paid me more than minimum wage so it wasn't really worth sweating over” This got a chuckle out of everyone except my old boss. Not that I expected to make a huge amount of money washing dishes but if you're paying someone the lowest amount you legally can don't expect them to be super motivated.
I KPed for about 3 months and cheffed for about 9, when I started I was told I would get a pay review after 3 1, but it never came so I moved on
