Indeed is doing an investigation for deceptive job listings and might slap employers with a hefty fine and de-platforming

Apologies for mobile format. We get a call from Indeed about halfway through. So my boyfriend wasted his time for another interview today. I say “wasted” because it was another 40 minute interview that ended in an offer with significantly less pay than advertised and a completely different job description that was conveniently left out beforehand. The job was for a “warehouse associate” with a pay range of $17-$19 hourly. My BF has a lot of experience and was hoping to push for $20/hr (which is already a paycut from his last job). He goes through the whole interview talking about his experience and all that with the guy for about half an hour. At the end of the interview, the guy says “so we can offer you a position at $15/hour, but in a month you'll get the $2/hr delivery bonus once you start delivering. Does that work for…

Does that work for you?”

BF says no, that is way too low and that wasn't what he was interviewing for. BF told him that he felt like his time was being wasted. Guy says “Well, we didn't intend to waste it.”

BF pulls up his Indeed application and shows the guy their own listing that doesn't say “driver” anywhere on it. BF asks him how he didn't expect this when he applied to that job, but is getting offered this job? And the guy literally says “Well yeah I guess…”

BF says “I don't even have a problem with being a delivery driver had you guys been honest and I came into this interview expecting it. But I'm reporting you on Indeed so you don't waste anybody else's f*cking time.”

The guy says “Well all warehouse associates are drivers and you get benefits!”

BF laughed in his face and told him that if they really expected to get people with these shady tactics they are kidding themselves. Dude tries to go off about how the pay is “market rate” and all that and its pretty typical of a “warehouse environment”.

BF tells him to offer grown ass men a liveable wage and be upfront about what the job is. BF tells him that if he keeps posting these shady job listings, he will just keep on reporting them. Dude literally tried to say “you can't do that”. BF said “f*cking try me” and left.

Wtf was dude expecting?? The audacity to KNOW that you're doing this to people and then act so f*cking surprised when people get upset?

Almost immediately after reporting their listing, BF gets a call from a random number. They said they were Indeed's Fraud Investigation Dept. and they called in regard to his last report on Indeed.

BF asked them what was going on and they explained they have had more and more reports of this company omitting information and changing wages in the final offer, but the company was posting their listings in a way where it didn't immediately flag them. They have been trying to contact people who have gone to interviews and then reported them.

They explained this company is being investigated with the possibility of never being allowed on the platform and hefty fines.

BF told them he was still in his car after interviewing with the company just now. They asked him about the location, person he interviewed with, if anyone else was involved in the interview and what was eventually offered.

They said they've been investigating and appreciated his help. They advised him not to answer calls from that company because they were going to send a person from Indeed to interview at this place to investigate further.

He drove home and I had him pull up the listing to make this post and it had already been removed!!! Less than 30 minutes later.

TL;DR
(Boyfriend went to an interview and they offered him something completely different than what was listed. BF reported it on Indeed and Indeed actually followed up about it and advised they are sending someone to fake interview with the company to investigate further. There is the possibility of hefty fines and not allowing them to have any listings on Indeed again.)

Moral of the story: REPORT THE LISTINGS!!! Don't let it happen to other people and make sure the company has to try really f*cking hard to be shady.

Indeed seems to be trying to actually hold some of these companies accountable and I am stoked. Also, fuck that guy. Literally admitted that he was giving a different offer than what the job listing is for.
