Found an old envelope from a few months back that had my Christmas “bonus” in it. I explicitly remember a newer employee being told they weren’t going to receive one because they hadn’t worked at the company long enough (~6 months). The envelope contained a prepaid VISA debit card. We’ve gotten these before for random occasions and it’s usually not a lot of money generally like $100. But I figured hey free money I’ll take. I called the number and activated the card and the automated system told me “your current balance is thirty five dollars and zero cents”…

The amount of hemming and hawing over coming up with that number is mind boggling. “$50? No, no, that’s WAY too much. $30? No, that’s too little. $35? Just right.”
I make $34/hr at my job so this was legit 1 hour of pay. What a slap in the face.
