I have multiple physical and mental health disabilities and I have been on leave for 6 months recovering. As part of my discussion to return to work, I submitted an ADA request for a 4/10 schedule so I can have a day for medical appointments as well as to just sleep and recover from my physical issues. My company already has alternate work schedules available for everyone to request, and this is one of them. I requested the schedule from HR and they immediately turned around with “no, your manager determined an 8am – 5pm schedule is absolutely necessary – they may be willing to allow you to start/end one hour later or one hour earlier (7-4 or 9-6). Considering the fact that the department already has flex start/end times, and most people are at their desks from 7:30 – 3:00, this is basically a non-response at best, and also just a gigantic middle finger. They left this “offer” in an email asking “will that help?” (Also keeping in mind that it's “might be willing to let you” and not even a solid offer to have a flexible start time. But again, not that I need that because everyone's already got that option.)
I have no idea what to do at this point. If I say no, I'm expecting an immediate termination, but I've never been through this before… any suggestions?
