“That’s called economics”

In 1980, I was 17, working at a Straw Hat Pizza franchise in Stone Mountain, Georgia. I started making minimum wage which was $3.10/hour. A few months after starting, the owner gave me a 25 cent raise because he said I deserved it. I worked harder than the other kids there and worked shifts nobody else wanted. Not long after that, minimum wage went up 25 cents an hour to $3.35, but the owner kept me at $3.35. I asked him why I was making the same as everyone else after busting my ass to earn a raise. His exact words were “That's called economics.” So I said “I know about economics. You just lost a valuable employee. I quit.” And then I walked out.
