I work at a hotel. The job itself is easy, the pay is mediocre at best (doesn’t even cover my rent most months. I make more money delivering food but keep this job because it’s generally easy-going and the owners are awesome. There’s only one employee in the building per shift (because we don’t really need more to answer phones and do check-ins). But the CUSTOMERS are the absolute worst part of the job, without question. This is a busy season where I am especially with traveling volleyball and dance teams. They’ve been in and out for the past month or so and will be for the next few months. In short, they’re mean. Ridiculously mean. I’ve been sitting here getting screamed at, spit on, and degraded every shift. I can’t take it anymore. So my question is this: what happens if I just… walk out during my shift? I day dream about grabbing my bag and walking out while a customer belittles me. They’d have to wait for service until the night auditor arrives at midnight. Are there any kind of legal repercussions since I’m the only one on the clock?
