I saw the BRIGHT red flags… and ignored them. That was my bad.

I work for a health-tech start-up that was acquired in September 2021 – This brought a high rate of turnover and general unrest from the folks at the start-up, and is a story for another day. I have been casually looking at different options regarding where I'd like my career to go – ideally, not in a corporate structure but I was keeping my options open. I did the typical LinkedIn searches, researching companies in the areas I would be interested in working for. I found a mental health health-tech start-up that stood out to me – so I applied for their Head of Customer Ops. role. I interviewed the company: First Interview – February 3rd – 1-hour remote interview with Head of HR Second Interview – February 15th – 1-hour remote interview with Head of Growth Ops. I did the typical LinkedIn searches, researching companies in the areas I would be interested in working for. I found a mental health health-tech start-up that stood out to me – so I applied for their Head of Customer Ops. role.

I interviewed the company:
First Interview – February 3rd – 1-hour remote interview with Head of HR
Second Interview – February 15th – 1-hour remote interview with Head of Growth Ops.
Third Interview – February 22nd -1-hour remote interview with Medical Director
Fourth Interview – February 23rd – 30 min remote interview with Customer Ops Lead
Fifth Interview – February 24th – 45 min remote interview with Co-Founder and CEO
Sixth Interview – March 9th – 1.5-hour in-person interview with Head of Growth Ops.
*** During this interview, I presented a case study I had worked on over a couple of days before our meeting. He kept my notes. He requested my references and told me that he would check them and have an offer written up for me by March 18th – On March 18th, I got a call saying they didn't need the Head of Customer Ops. Position immediately, but they did have a Product Ops. Lead role opening soon, and they were hiring for this role immediately. They wanted to connect me to the Head of Product – I told them I was more interested in the position I had been interviewing for over the last six weeks but would be open to having a conversation.
Seventh Interview – March 23rd – 45 min remote interview with the Head of Product
*** Next steps from this interview: they were going to finalize the job description, post it, and get in touch with me for the next steps.

So, what happened next? I sent a thank you email and waited.

They ghosted me.

I still haven't heard from them, but I did check their job postings on LinkedIn — the job is posted and it is not in fact a lead position but a 10-week internship for Summer 2022.

It's hard not to be bitter about this one, and I'm trying very hard to be understanding and kind but also WHAT… I saw the red flags, but I ignored them. That was my bad…
