Can a company deny health insurance to a full time employee when they turn 65 and become eligible for Medicare?

The company I work for is doing this and a co-worker went to see an attorney a few months before he turned 65 and the attorney told him the company has a lot of money and he doesn't, so there is basically nothing he can do.
