I need advice on something because I know a non chain restaurant I worked at did illegal stuff and would like to see them get the karma that's coming to them.
For reference, this restaurant is in Michigan and I no longer work there but my best friend does. She told me that the employee that did payroll altered the cash tips on the end of day envelopes we filled out. Apparently it didn't matter what cash tip we would right down or if we left it blank, they would alter the number so then it appears we made more than we did.
If you're a server and didn't make at least minimum wage, they are responsible for covering the difference, since servers in Michigan make I believe $2.50/hour when I had that job. That is meant to cover your taxes and you rely on tips for your proper income.
They also required uniforms that they had us purchase out of pocket, over charging us for them to make a profit as well. If a uniform is required by your employer, they have to provide it.
It's been two years since they stopped putting my on the schedule, aka letting me go without notice, simply because I kept informing them they were scheduling me on days I'm unavailable because I was working my full time EMS position. I don't currently have any proof that they fraudulent my tips so they won't have to pay the difference but I'm wondering if there's anything I can do? They treated me and many other like garbage and I would like to see justice.
