A little backstory:
I work for a clothing store as a key holder with a bunch of sales associates and my two Assistant Managers and my Store Manager. I’ve only been working here for a couple months but honestly my assistant managers suck at what they do, they’re never helping me or the sales associates and basically just sit in the back all day then complain when it’s time to close that the store looks like a mess.
This isn’t a company where managers aren’t expected to be working with guests, everyone is expected to be out even my store manager and she does.
Glassdoor claims assistant managers make $28, the sales associates make 13-15 and I make $16.50. I have to do literally everything whenever I work with my assistant managers.
So after telling all this to my boss I told her that if my responsibilities were going to be more of an assistant manager I need my pay to be at least in the middle of the ASMs and Sales Associates so I asked her for $20.
She has told me multiple times that she cannot promise anything, she’ll try and talk to her boss and that we’ll have a manager meeting so I can let out what I want to say to the assistant managers. She also told me that $16.50 was already too high for my role but I’m forced to work like an ASM, while they do nothing.
Am I in the wrong for asking for a raise? Should I not let it get to me personally if she denies my request?
