No social life/time off

This is my second time posting here, and I feel I should preface this by saying I like my job. I’ve worked this job for almost 4 years, with a 3-year gap between the third and fourth year, so I’m loyal, if anything. There are three points I feel I should touch on, from my experience. 1.) I was essentially promised a managerial position, upon my return. The original store manager, who has since retired, wanted me to be able to be a shift manager (essentially a supervisor) by the time he retired. It hasn’t happened at all. I haven’t even been trained, or started training at all. It’s starting to feel like the worst empty promise I’ve ever had. 2.)Piss poor scheduling.

Aside from needing to take the odd day off, because I was sick, I’ve only had two weekends off. One by request for my one year anniversary with my partner, and one by sheer luck. Everyone else gets every other weekend, or every weekend off. Sundays for some, I get behind, because I get a religious reason. You can’t be at church and work simultaneously, but you also can’t expect one guy to show up EVERY WEEKEND, with very few days off, so far apart they don’t even feel like days off.

3.) sick days. It’s rather frustrating not having any sick days either. I’m still dealing with a cold, and only took one day off, because I lost my voice. At one point my job was threatened, while I was unknowingly going through E. Coli, and sick to my stomach. Maybe I’m just sour from the “work yourself to death” treatment, or just nitpicking, but these especially are rubbing me the wrong way.

All in all, I like working at my retail job. It’s not really a negative environment, aside from my points above. And it’s due to these points that I’ve had to question wether or not it’s genuinely worthwhile working at this job again.
