I unfortunately work at a public relations agency (although I’m leaving this job in two weeks). Anyway, we’re required to bill our time to clients. So basically we have a timesheet and each day I have to bill everything I’ve done for the day in the .25 increments, so like “.75 writing this op-ed for client A” “1.25 doing this research for client B” etc. and you have to get ur increments to add up to at least 40 hours per week to submit the timesheet and you have to have 90% of your time of the week be attributed to client work (as opposed to admin stuff like attending a company all staff meeting or something).
Its so annoying bc I work really fast and so some shit just takes me a shorter time to get done! And while most jobs would love someone who works fast, its always a whole ordeal because agency is all about working as many hours as possible instead of just get work done in however long it takes you.
Its exhausting cause some days I just want to enjoy a lighter work day without worrying that I wont have enough time to bill and then get scolded by my manager by not being “proactive and asking for more work.”
All i gotta say is that if a job wants you to account for every fraction of an hour you spend each workday…RUN!!!! I will never do it again. Been suffering w/ this bullshit for 5 years and i just pulled the plug. I don’t have another job lined up at the moment but oh well 🤷️
FUCK WORK!!!!!!
