Curious about DOL investigation process

Has anyone filed a complaint with your state Department of Labor? If so, how did it go? I'm almost positive the non profit I work for is violating the law governing wages for exempt workers. I'm in Wisconsin. Wondering how long it generally takes for someone to get back to you, how soon you find out whether there will be an investigation, etc. I feel awful because like so many people who work at non profits I truly believe in the mission and I actually love the work I do. The culture of non profit work (at least in my city) is that many employees put in unpaid overtime “to support the mission.” It's so exploitative. I feel awful because like so many people who work at non profits I truly believe in the mission and I actually love the work I do. The culture of non profit work (at least in my city) is that many employees put in unpaid overtime “to support the mission.” It's so exploitative. And as much as I love the work, it's not right to treat people the way they're being treated.

Anyway, I'm nervous and feel guilty (which I know is bullshit, because I'm not the one doing anything wrong), so I guess I'm hoping if someone can walk me through what happens I won't feel as nervous. Thanks
