I saw a comment in another thread about turning a blind eye to shoplifters. I thought it might make for an interesting topic.
I work for a large national store and occasionally see customers shoplifting. In the early days I thought it was wrong and would mention it to a department manager but they’re attitude was “unless there,s someone from loss prevention in the store we can’t do anything about it.” So I’d just ignore it.
These days I’ve become more aware of how difficult it is for some people to get by, so my attitude is less to do with “why bother” and more to do with “if you need it and can’t pay, then take it. I’m not about to make things worse for you.”
When people obviously cant afford something they clearly need, I’ll help them out by opening the box and then put a “discounted” sticker on it because “parts are missing” or whatever and reduce the price.
What are people’s thoughts?
