Absurd companies and their absurd contracts

I was interviewing recently with a well known company in customer service and it was going pretty well until the last stage of the interview where recruiter R had some absurd rules to point and ask me to sign the contract. The last bit of conversation went something like this…. R: Looking at your resume, the talk we've had up until now and the discussion of compensation, i think you'd be a great fit here. Me: Thank you, yes. I'm very much looking forward to working with your company. R: That sounds great. But i have a few questions before we close this discussion. Starting with, have you ever had criminal charges or ever been to court for corporate law related issues with your previous employers? Me: No, and no.

I have no criminal charges and i've made it clear while submitting your online application. Haven't gone to court for corporate related matters because it was never needed.

R: Well, once you sign our contract, you can't go to court either –starts laughing

At first i thought it was a joke and played along but his face immediately changed saying “Actually, we do have a policy here. Once you sign the contract, you would be waiving off your right to an attorney.”

Me: Sorry, that sounded much better when it was a joke. So if i happen to have a legal dispute within the company, where will i go?

R: We have excellent and supportive policies for employees here to deal with everything internally. But there are strict rules. No protesting, no discussing work related problems or salaries with coworkers. Anything and everything must be reported to your immediate manager or supervisor.

Me: Still sounded better when all of this was a joke. Thanks for your time but I will not be going forward with this company.

R: What made you change your mind, if i may ask?

Me: Kindly revisit the last bit of conversation we've had like a normal neutral human. If i were you, I'd be surprised why I'm continuing my career in this company.
