So I got a job at a small business in September because I wanted to have some steady income while I work on side hustles that could become full time.
Before I got hired. I mentioned that I didn't want to work every Saturday 1 because it would be 1 day off I could have with my SO and 2 because I have D&d. They said that it was fine if I could work every other Saturday but when I showed up for my on Saturday they were like oh sorry we actually need you to work every Saturday. They said I could leave early if I wanted to but it was pretty obvious they had no intention of ever giving me that day off.
Then I asked her if I could get set up on direct deposit because I need to build up credit and cards like Chime require you to have your paychecks go into your account directly to prove you have a job.She said she'd look into it but never shared what she found out. I live about a 15 min walk from my house. They use that as an excuse to ask me for things they don't ask other employees. They asked me to come in on Christmas/New Years and granted they were reduced hours but I felt like they might value me as an employee if I did stuff like that.
Then some other employee asked for one of my shifts. He was getting less hours at his other job. They said he was an employee there longer than me and so he got prioritiy for hours.
So recently they had their door locking system quit working. She runs everything on a shoe string budget and it's a basic simple device to use with an app. The apps been malfunctioning and apparently the doors had been locking randomly and they want me to stop by and check the doors every night as a favor… I wouldn't be there any time to put on my hours and they didn't offer any compensation. I texted them later saying that if they are going to ask me to do stuff like that I need to be paid.
If I'm going to be priority for doing stuff like that because of my location/availability it would be nice if my hours were priority. My boss didn't say anything but when I went to work the next day started making it very obvious she was watching me on camera and listening to what I was saying. She started to go on about things that weren't worth it. She started saying things she noticed I missed. She usually does not text me like that when I'm on the job.
I called her out and said that if I she didn't have a problem with me the past few months she shouldn't now that I've stood up for myself. She called me on my phone while she was on vacation and felt the need to say things like I give 100$ bonuses for people who go above and beyond. Not that she ever used money as an insentive… Started lying and being manipulative about other shit too. Like saying she was doing a favor having me work Christmas because I want more hours now…that I agreed to work those Saturdays and would I like to not work them now…
