I don't want to give too much information, but I want to know if I'm making a mistake and thought this community would be brutally honest.
I am not college educated and have never before been in management. I worked as a bank teller and in accounts receivable until I had my first child. I have been out of the workforce for 16 years.
Last year, I heard about a company needing a P/T (6 hours/day) receptionist. I decided to dip my toes back into the working world. Life was starting to become too expensive to live off one income.
I am very intelligent. I excelled in school and although I stopped working, I never stopped learning. I read and am self-taught in a lot of different areas. I am a good and reliable worker. I don’t abuse company policies, but I make sure I do take all benefits that are offered. I don’t want to sound like I have a huge ego, but I want to make sure I give all relevant info.
I have really enjoyed the job as a receptionist and quickly took on extra jobs because I can not stand sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. I improved and streamlined a lot of things very quickly. I was offered a full-time position after 4 months because employees and staff all “love” everything I’m doing to help make the company more efficient.
While I enjoy my job I have noticed that some of my coworkers are constantly stressed and say they are overworked. 5+ have left in the short time I have worked there. The same amount has been fired for poor job performance.
Now I am being offered a position in management. They are offering me the same pay (50,000 year + performance bonuses) as the person who previously had the job. They even agreed to let me work fewer hours than the previous manager. They told me because of my performance they do not doubt that I can handle it.
I know I can do it too, but I don’t want to go from enjoying work every day to hating it, like some of my coworkers. Some coworkers seem to enjoy their jobs. Right now I’m making 16 an hour full-time.
Is this offer too good to be true am I missing red flags?
The company has a high turnover rate but has been in business for a very long time. They always promote from within first.
