Alright, so I started this job in about February. It really isn't my thing, definitely not a dream and I make less than a gas station clerk doing it. Hooray. But it looks good on a resume so I'm trying to get a year here under my belt.
Where I work, we work the the community and do a lot of programming in house. All in-house programming goes to my coworker, and all outreach work is my work.
My coworker has a lot of in-hour programming, while I don't necessarily have to do in-house programming, it's not in my job description, I do help her out a lot.
Today she had this program that went past the time my 8 hours are up. She is not my boss though she is technically in a higher position than me. I told her I was leaving when my 8 hours was up and that was that. She acted all bummed the whole time that I wasn't going to stay. Then, when it was time for me to leave, when I told her I was leaving, she asks me to help her clean up. (A huge mess made by a bunch of children). So I helped her clean (when I'm actuality I was cleaning and she was nowhere to be seen), and then I left without saying a word (because I didn't know where tf she was). But this program still had a whole other HOUR to go and she was still looking at me like she was all sad I couldn't stay, and like it was some sort of responsibility of mine. I had somewhere to be at 6, and I told her multiple times that day.
All I was told when I started this job was to get my 8 hours in, and to work over that time I needed the approval of a boss. Now, we are in between bosses and only have board members to do the job of our boss at the moment, so there's no one in the building for me to go to as a boss, which really sucks. But my coworker has done this to me multiple times— guilt tripping me into staying over my time to help with her projects. I'm just worried that she is going to make it seem like I'm not doing my job, to the board or the future boss, when in actuality, I get pretty much all of what my actual job in my job description is DONE in less than 8 hours a day. I don't know what advice there is for this but, if anyone has any…
