Why is it okay for employers to screen for substances that are legal?

What is the argument here? What does the employer care or have a right to care what you do in your off time as long as it is legal to put in your body? This absolutely needs to change. Edit: I was just denied a job after passing all physical tests and interviews, only to find THC in my system (which has been legal for years where I live). I haven't smoked or ate THC for 2 weeks. I had a huge edible nearly 3 weeks ago and I failed a pre screen.
