Hello everyone. I need your advice on a situation with a family member.
I have a member of my family who worked at a store that the owners took advantage of in regards to hours in pay etc.
When my family member finally quit, the owners of the store kept calling and checking up on this family member. They held their last paycheck with the stipulation that they had to come over to their house for a “get together.
My family member went over, got the paycheck, and out of guilt and psychological manipulation, stayed for dinner.
I know this sounds like an insane story. But it's basically a young person who is being manipulated by older people with guilt. I've explained this to my family member and they understand this. When I finally asked the other day if that was the end of it, and if it was all done for, I was told that there was one more “obligation.”
Before they quit they had been manipulated into promising to go take care of the owner's house when they went on a trip. My family member does not want to do this anymore. This is like in four or five months.
I am so pissed off that I am ready to go to the business and curse them out. I'm trying to get my family member just to send them a text and to block their phone number but they feel so guilty. Is this something akin to Stockholm syndrome?
What do you guys think should be done? Or what can I say or do? I just want this weird fucked up psychosexual relationship to end. My family member does too but they feel guilty and sad and hesitant to pull the trigger because it might upset the former owners.
I look forward to hearing any ideas and thoughts.
