I work with a small team doing IT work. We operate 24/7 and we only have 12 people and we all work 12 hour shifts. Today I found out 1 of my coworkers is working from home today b/c he needs to do laundry. He says he can't do it when he gets home or before work because his roommate works nights and is asleep so he asked if he can work from home to do laundry.
I think it's hilarious that a grown man in his 30s has to work from home to do laundry and can't do it on one of his 3 days off a week he gets. I just laugh it off and start to think, “hey if we're able to work from home for something like that then maybe this upcoming weekend shift I have I'll be able to work from home due to it being Easter weekend. I can spend time with my family (who are very religious). Our weekends are always dead and slow because our clients we work with all work M-F so we only are working because our service we provide operates 24/7. Its basically dead to the point sometimes we will literally take naps in the conference room on a blow up mattress. So I approach my boss and ask if I can work this weekend due to the holiday and I was told no. This really irritates me and makes me frustrated. Am I wrong to be upset about this?
Also just add context we worked from home all during covid until just a few months ago. We are used to working from home and are capable.
