I[27F] recently left a small studio of 5 people where there was a high turnover, and the owner[50F] made us work until very late because of being understaffed.
Received an email a week later saying that she has been monitoring my website and linkedin, saying to correct certain terms, (i.e. “you didn't 'concept' this idea you simply 'designed it). And stuff like “this is the incorrect photo. This is incorrect. Change the photo immediately.” My website was only updated a few days ago anyways so I'm surprised she is still keeping such meticulous tabs on me. Ended up taking down my website because she asked for me to change everything or she will send her lawyer on me. Wondering why she couldn't' talk to me like a person and not threaten me out the gate since everyone at her job were 'her family' after all.
Additionally, I understand that everything in the office is company property, but she had also found notes in one of my journals I left at my desk with things about my side hustles and classes. She sent them back to me saying “oh, by the way I found this, seems like you need it.” as if she had found out my secret identity or something. There was nothing in our contract staying anything about classes and side work, only that if you can manage side work, it is okay.
Our relationship had alot of paranoia on her side for me, my manager telling me that I 'needed to tell them about my personal life more, needed to confide in them more as friends, and that they're all family here.' Bleh. I did not for personal reasons.
Anyways, I refused to talk to much about myself and kept my head down, but as we had more people leave, my boss was consistently being passive aggressive to me for small mistakes, yelling at me things like “if the client saw this it would be an EMBARASSMENT, do you understand??” After multiple similar incidents, I abruptly quit to her surprise. I did not give any answers to where I was going next and what was going on in my life and just straight up walked out.
Friends are telling me that she just has an obsessive personality and maybe insecure as well since many people left. She has constantly checked up on other people that have left and made fun of them, or tried to find 'dirt' and I feel that I'm next right now. I've never left a job on bad terms so I'm wondering what to do about her constant messaging.
Has anyone else had a boss that was just obsessed with them after they left? Is this like a control thing?
