So there is this fast casual burger place that advertised that they were looking for cashiers/ hosts/bussers. I applied for a cashier position. Turns out I wouldn’t just be doing cashiering, but I’d also be running food, bussing, and bartending, and they stated to me the pay is $3.00 an hour, but you get tips. Sounds like maybe that’s okay, until he tells me they pool the tips, and whoever works the most hours that week for each shift get a bigger cut of the tip. So say you and another person work opening shift, and you get 20 hours that week, and worked hard than the other person that got 24 hours that week. The person that got 24 hours that week will get more of the tips. Also, I asked the GM how much do they average in tips he told me he didn’t know. Then I asked the front of house manager he told me between $12-$ 15 an hour, but that their location was a slower location because most of the other locations are located in malls. He also told me the restaurant used to be more like a dine in service with a server that took your order, etc. but when the pandemic hit they switched to counter service/ fast casual. I tried to tough it out, but I couldn’t I have severe health issues, and just can’t do that many positions at once. Plus, I thought the pay structure and inconsistent hours were appalling. What are y’all’s thoughts on restaurant establishments that have this kind of set up where they pay server wages, but have you work multiple positions, and do tip pools?
