Hi friends, do you have some input to help a budding consultant out?
After over a year working with this client, I asked for a 6% raise to account for inflation (3%) and the increased skill required in he future scope of the next part of the project. (Not to mention I am now an expert in their workflows).
Their answer? Ghost for 5 work days. Then ask for proof that I even have any other clients. I thought that was SO out of line. My manager was apologetic, and asked for just some project examples. I listed them like so: “website project for non-wovens industry client” keeping it vague because I don’t divulge client info like that. That has to do with my agreement with them.
Then, four days later, she says she didn’t get my email. And “don’t boil the ocean, just give me two examples/names”.
HELL NO. There is no way they would be asking this of a man. Should I fwd the initial email with projects and say I don’t divulge client names, and ask what are they paying their other consultants and if they also asked this of them?? Could I also find a way to tell them I had turned down a job that paid 35% more at the beginning of our contract because I felt I would enjoy this project more, and also passed on a job that was 43% higher, so if this small ask is a problem I will not struggle to find somewhere that is willing to pay my worth.
If they can’t decide on a measly 6%, I will reduce hours or quit. I would rather not burn bridges and can see clearly what I can bring to the table but if they can’t see this… how do I respond?
