I started this gig about three weeks ago. It's kind of a low paying run of the mill office job, but I wasn’t picky. Everything had been going pretty well for the first couple of days, but a little while into it something happened between me and my boss. The office I work in is kept pretty dim, with poorly maintained industrial leds being the main source of light. I opened the blinds next to my desk, letting some sun in and thinking nothing of it. However, when my boss came near me he burst into a rage, demanding that I close the blind immediately. He said he had some kind of disease that made him sensitive to light, so I let it go. A couple of days went by, and one of my female coworkers was lying down on one of the breakroom chairs after a meeting with our boss. I asked her if she was ok, and she assured me she was fine, just a little tired. I noticed a mark on her neck that resembled the outline of a mouth. I believe it was a hickey? I didn’t want to question her relationship with my boss, so I let it slide. The following Monday I brought in some leftover garlic bread I had bought from an Italian place downtown. During our lunch break (the whole office eats lunch at the same time) I whipped out the garlic bread and my boss went psycho! He started screaming about his allergy to garlic, but I have a hunch that he was actually singling me out because I said to a coworker that I thought he was faking his heavy lisp—I didn’t know he was listening in on that conversation until he mentioned it to me later. Sound travels I guess! He says he lived in Romania for 40 years, and I believe him because of his clothing choices. He always comes to the office in a heavy black storm cloak, even on Casual Friday. The tip of the iceberg, for me however, is when I asked if he was religious, and he said he wasn’t. I followed that question up by asking “Really? No holy water baptism, nothing?” Instead of answering, he started violently convulsing behind his desk and ordered me to “BEGONE!” (his exact words). Should I confront him? And if so, how?
