I just got a job through a friend for a small business doing landscaping. It's hard but it's fun, and it pays $20 an hour, and I've never made more than $13.
The catch is they want to pay me as a contractor so really I only get $18.50. He says he'll give me a raise to what I originally expected in August but thats when I go back to school and he knows that.
I feel like that alone says he knows I'm worth $20 because he's trying to retain me.
Otherwise I really like the job, and my coworkers and boss are great. It's a very small business, and they really apreciate what I do and seem to be able to leverage my personality which is something I've never seen before from a corporate job.
Still, I'm constantly angry about how I feel like I was manipulated into a 7% pay cut from what I was expecting, and it makes want to quit… or try less hard which would assure I never get a raise. Especially knowing that we s
do a project that takes 3 days for 2 people that costs $4k in materials and charge $10k. Like really we're fighting over $1.50???
