I’m a support worker, I care for people who’s family are unable to meet their needs through no fault of their own. It’s rewarding, the pay is shit but it’s enough to just about get by.
Except I can only work limited hours because of having Tourette’s. Long sorry short, Tourette’s is actually a really disruptive and painful disorder, mentally and physically. I can only work 2/3 times a week because this shit is tiring.
Anyway that amount of work equates to £540 a month. My rent alone is £825 (crappy small ass flat that isn’t accessible for someone like me).
Just a bit of context, when I moved into my flat I was working full time earning £1600-1700 a month, but then I had to go off sick for 6 months, unpaid.
Okay I’ll use my savings sure whilst I apply for benefits, I’m eligible that’s for sure.
Nice, the government will give me £1200 a month, that’s actually really generous.
Except, £800 is deducted because my girlfriend is a student, and the “rules are the rules”.
I, a disabled person, in the UK might I add, has been left completely abandoned
I don’t even blame capitalism anymore lol
