For context: my workplace takes good care of me, we have a huge culture of ensuring a good work life balance, bosses/managers treat me well, the work isn’t stressful, we never get overworked, it’s a chilled & laid back environment – it’s honestly ideal, we even get flexible hours (here is where the problem comes in)…
So we basically get our usual annual leave days, and also we are able to earn days off – so for example, if I work an hour extra a day for 7 days, I can have an extra day off.
Due to my managers never checking our timesheets (which we’re supposed to fill out), I kinda abuse this… heavily. I’ve taken 3 extra days off this year without actually working those extra hours, if I’m honest – I’ve probably worked less.
I recently confessed this to one of my coworkers and encouraged him to do the same as he was struggling to get days off. His response was “oh no way, I don’t wanna do that, I’d feel so guilty”.
I kinda reflected over this and thought to myself, “oh fuck, why don’t I feel guilty about this too?”.
Like I say, my workplace is incredible, so it’s not even as if they put lots of pressure on me and I’m ‘driven’ to slyly ‘earn’ these extra days off.
Why don’t I feel bad?
