I applied to a job and they said it would be a hybrid role. My boss let me start at 3 days a week. It’s 1 month in, and because I spent a WFH day working from my grandparents house, they have penalized me and said I must come in 5 days moving forward to prove my commitment to the job. This policy would be fine, but I had no idea it actually was a policy to inform the boss your whereabouts on WFH days. They also lied about it being in the employee handbook when it’s not, it’s an informal procedure that was sent to staff in an email before my arrival. My boss also took the opportunity to tell me that I don’t open up lines for “informal communication” so I can’t help but think it’s retaliation for not going to a personal party he invited me too. I’ve been great at my job btw, no transgressions. Feeling fucked and don’t have enough savings to quit.
