Demoted myself today and it feels good

I was promoted to shift manager of a major pizza chain three weeks ago, with the promise of $13/hr (raise from $11/hr), and the last two retention bonuses I was promised upon hiring four months ago (which have since been 86’d for new hires). Today, I let my main manager know my last paycheck was still at $11/hr, so he called our district manager. She told him not only do I not get any more retention bonuses, but I would only be getting $12/hr, the top starting range for non-manager employees, when the sign on our door says shift managers start at $13. So I told him that we teach people how to treat us, and I’m not gonna teach my district manager that she can treat me like that, and demoted myself back down to happy little cashier girl who isn’t required to give a fuck whether that place…

I’m still getting $12/hr, and now none of it is my problem anymore. The district manager will be covering my management role on every single one of my shifts (mostly closing) and she can have fun with that.
