Former boss asked me to come back to work for them and give me all that I asked for, his boss decided to take my ideas and try and give it to someone else.

I used to work for a small time e gaming casino in my town as a security guard. The security department was fairly new and created a few months before they hired me. I was favored by a most staff and supervisors because I was actually doing my job of enforcing rules on customers and staff alike, actually keeping the work area safe for employees. I don't want to sound like I'm bragging or bringing anyone down but the rest of the department was comprised of just anyone willing to take the job which were mostly elderly men with no experience in the job. The department only had base level staff, no manager, no supervisor, was all lead by the Gaming Manager who was often to busy to set up guidelines or enforce procedures. I've made many suggestions to try and better the department but it was often ignored because of how busy managers were. I quit in less than a year seeing how I wouldn't have a future there and nobody listened to anything I had to say until ot was too late (and because i was offered 20k to reenlisted in my army reserve component) . A few months later there was a change in management and the new manager asked if I could come back and work for them. I said I would be interested but only if they would listen to my suggestions. A meeting was held and this was what I had asked:

  • the position of supervisor
  • a raise from the standard 8h to 10h (regular supervisors get 9.75)
  • a consistent 9-5 schedule, so that I could work with the actual admin as they often asked security guards to escort them during important events and I would take their place instead
-to convert the surveillance room (which was being used for storage equipment and machine storage) into an actual security office.

The manager and his subordinates all loved the ideas and almost immediately wanted to hire me back. Even going as far as asking if I still had my old uniforms so I could start as soon as it gets approved. This was brought up to the General Manager who, I'm told, loved the ideas as much as they did. A few days later I'm contacted by the manager saying there's been a delay in my process as they couldn't “justify” giving me the position of supervisor. The General Manager was concerned with the fact that I had 8 years of service in the military (still ongoing) and 2 years in a surveillance department for an even bigger casino thar had shut down recently due to COVID (and apparently illegal activity). All that time spent and not any of it spent as a supervisor, which meant I wasn't qualified to be one because I have experience as none. A little confused by this I told them I'd be willing to meet with the GM to further discuss this and maybe explain what I had planned for the department. The meeting comes around and we exchange our formalities. I went straight into the point and explained what exactly I did kn my time at the former casino and my plans to help build up the Security Department from its foundation. The entire time the GM just keeps nodding, looking around, and just spacing out, as if he weren't listening or just wasn't interested in what I had to say. He then goes on to explain that he likes my ideas, he likes me, and he likes my resume. But nowhere does it say supervisor so it doesn't make me qualified for the position. He then goes on to say that my ideas just so happened to align with his recent interest in looking into the security department. He then makes the ground announcement that they'll be announcing the position on the government vacancies page in order to see if they can find someone who can better qualify. They'll leave it out for 2 weeks and call me back afterwards to see if anything happens.

I was appalled, the GM just told me he was going to steal my ideas and try to give it to someone else. I said nothing else as I didn't want to further deteriorate any chance I had left with them. I looked at the other manager who looked just as surprised as I was. With nothing more said the meeting was adjourned and the GM said simply let me leave without uttering another word.

TL;DR my old job wanted me back, I gave them my terms to come back. The GM liked my ideas but didn't want to hire me as I wasn't “qualified” by his terms and wants to find someone who is to fulfill my suggestions.
