Asking for better pay

There is a seasonal job as a reservation agent that is being advertised for $14.49 an hour. This seems insanely low for the type of work, and is no where near a living wage. On the application there is a spot to specify the pay rate you require, I’m considering putting $17. Do you think that they will just not even consider the application because I’m asking for a decent wage? This is in Washington state and I’m over qualified for the position. I really like that it’s only 4 months out of the year, as working all year long is super challenging for me. I think I would like the job, but it’s an hour away(I’m at least half an hour from anything) and $14.49 just doesn’t seem worth it. TLDR: has anyone ever had success is getting more than the advertised wage for an hourly position?
