I've spent the last 3.5 years working in a specialty food shop at a market. It's the best job I've ever had. I get to walk to work, boss is an angel, great pay, benefits, PTO, the whole shabang. I was just informed that my boss (the owner) is closing the shop at the end of June. Covid killed the business. Even now with everything seemingly back to normal, work from home has seriously reduced foot traffic downtown. Insane inflation on our products has forced us to raise prices on an already premium product. Our sales are half of what they were pre-covid. I'm devastated. My job was so narrow and specific that the skills aren't even transferable. I know I'll never have it as good as I do now again. I briefly looked at some other jobs online but I'll be making less money, working longer (and worse) hours, and I'm sure that's just the beginning. I worked my fair share of bad jobs before I found this one and I can't imagine going back. I literally am thinking about just buying a cheap car to live in and just seeing how long my savings will last. If I have to work till I'm dead, might as well just be dead now.
