I've been working in retail on minimum wage most of my life, never had a pay increase, worked most weekends on similar rate. Etc. Never felt properly valued.
Yesterday I finally got a remote part time job and they asked what I expected hourly.
I went for a 35% increase from my current job, nervous they would decline it.
They said “I'm happy to pay you that, but I think you're far more valuable, so hopefully that can be much more in the future”.
So don't forget, you are valuable, don't let your shitty minimum wage job make you think anything else!
