Long time follower of this sub, found myself in an odd position with work and need addvice.
I recently got offered a new job, which is great because I hate my current job. The new job is a step up (more pay, reasonable hours, more responsibilities, ect) Accepted the job offer said I could start in two weeks, decided to give me current workplace two weeks notice.
They have told me because of my contract I have to give a month. I haven't signed the contract, when I mentioned this in an email said “even though you did not sign the updated contract as you have been working you have accepted these terms and the notice period was set out in the original contract.” (What the fuck does that mean)
For context, we have been given multiple contracts (first contract 3 months and 2nd contract 6 months). I haven't been happy at my workplace for a while so subtly didn't sign the second contract because I expected to leave the company soon.
Me leaving means that my workplace would be very under staffed (maybe they should reflect on why so many people are leaving so quick). Previous colleagues have given two weeks notice so I thought it would be acceptable.
I've had to sign multiple NDA's so I can't mention who I work for, but yeah I'm very confused. Is any of this legally binding?
