When I realised HR isn’t on your side

12 years ago, I injured my back at work. It was excruciating and I could barely walk, let alone continue my work duties. I went to hospital and got signed off work and given a lot of painkillers. I emailed work to explain, copying in HR. I was naive, so I simply asked that I get full pay while I was off, on account of it being a work injury. I got an email back saying they accept no liability for the injury as their policy says new staff don't have to be trained how to do their job safety in the first 3 months of employment. I emailed back with quotes from the law. HR stopped replying. I got threatening emails from their legal department instead. HR didn't care about me at all. But, ever since I've taken a very literal interpretation of “human resources”. The tech support guy who looks after the computing resources doesn't care about the printer as it's own thing, just as a resource; human resources don't care about you as a person, just as a resource.
