So proud of my mom and sister

Mom is super conservative and has been on the “nobody wants to work” train. My sister doesn’t do we’ll standing up for herself and has been a professional doormat most of her life. My mom was invited to apply for a different roll – basically similar work but at a district instead of a school. Her resume was fantastic, her performance reviews have been outstanding for the 8 years she’s worked there, and her professional references were from people with glowing praise for her. They offered her the job, but at the lowest possible pay rate for that position. She faced them down and told them that the offer was insultingly low. The position has been open for almost a year, the amount of work it will take to get caught up is daunting, and that once she’s caught up it will still be about 20% more work with less…

The position has been open for almost a year, the amount of work it will take to get caught up is daunting, and that once she’s caught up it will still be about 20% more work with less time off than what she’s doing now. They told her that the standard for an in-district pay raise is restricted at 3% and they were actually having to offer her 7.33% to even meet the lowest pay rate available for the position…. At which point she decided that she is going to take that email and use it to push for a pay raise in her current position. She told them to pound sand and that if they are only willing to pay the lowest rate available then they deserve to have an employee who does the lowest standard of work because she is worth more than that!

My sister has been breaking work performance records at her job. She has the highest closing rate on loans of anyone despite having been shorter time than others. She has closed up to 9 loans in one day, which is apparently unheard of. Instead of being praised, her boss criticizes when she has one loan get delayed due to things beyond her control like state laws and National rate changes.

She’s been talking about her wages and asking coworkers about their wages. The boss’s 18 year old nephew makes $7k more than she does to punch holes in paper, take out the trash, and file folders. She has requested a meeting with HR and her boss today and is prepared to walk and has offers from other rival companies to bring to the table. She wants to stay at the same company because her husband works there too, but he’s ready to walk with her and they will lose two great employees if they don’t get their act together.

I’m so proud of these two women I love fighting for themselves and being their best advocates! They aren’t on Reddit and don’t follow the antiwork movement, but they are hearing the advice anyway and pushing to take care of themselves and their families. I’m so proud!!
