I started a job that requires me to fly for work once a month. The company told me that they would pay for it in the interview, but now apparently they want me to front the costs and submit an expense report afterwards.
I find this to be very troubling because they know how much I make, and asking me to front $1500-2000 for a 3 day hotel, food and flights to LA on a week’s notice is kind of absurd. My boss said “just throw it on a credit card and get the points.” I don’t have a credit card like that.
For context, I make $60k. This trip is almost 40% of my monthly pay after taxes and even though I’m getting it back at a later date I’m still going to struggle to pay my bills on time.
Is this unethical or am I crazy? I just find it insulting that they would demand this knowing how much I make.
